The Jerry & Gina Smith Family (circa 2001)
|
My wife and I are transplants to the Boise area from a small town in southern Nevada [Overton, NV - Population: 8191].
I moved to the Boise area in 1979. Actually, I came to visit a friend and fell in love with Idaho. After living here in Boise for 2 years, I went back to Nevada for a visit. I soon fell in love with a 'home town' girl; married her;
convinced or persuaded her to 'come and see Idaho'. She too fell in love with it. We both decided that Boise was a good place to raise a family.
We've always felt welcome here, even though we are not Idaho Natives. We're raising 3 wonderful boys that are proud to call themselves First Generation Idaho Natives. Even though, in the minds of most Idahoan's That doesn't count worth beans .
I used to be employed by Hewlett-Packard
CSSO in their Macintosh Customer Support Center for 14 years. The center
served North America, South America, Canada and the Pacific
Islands. It
even took calls from the U.K., Middle-East, Australia
and Africa on occasion. We in the Customer Support Group
were downsized. Our jobs
were outsourced to Bangalor, India and Costa Rica. I'm currently employed at EDS working
for the Navy's (NMCI) network, with a secret clearence that allows me to
help them with their computer problems.
My wife, Gina, has been doing day care in our home since 1984. Since only one of our own children is now in school, she sees doing day care as 'caring for her extended family'. That isn't to say that she doesn't enjoy a more quiet atmosphere with the rest of us in the evening. Her passion, when not working, is in arts and crafts. Her present passion is doing Tole Painting, Woodworking and Gardening. But, if she sees something creative that she can try or something that looks interesting, she jumps in with both feet (and hands).
Our boys are Thomas25, Dale23 and Todd17. There are some great schools in our area and our boys went to separate schools because of their ages. Todd, our only son still going to school, goes to the Cenntenial High School.
